According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), about 29.1 million people in the U.S have diabetes, a condition that is associated with serious chronic complications that can be prevented or delayed with adequate glucose control. Diabetes is also associated with acute complications like hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia crisis that result in frequent emergency room visits and hospital readmissions. According to the CDC, in 2012 the estimated total cost for diabetes in the U.S was $245 billions with $176 billions accounting for direct medical cost.
